rex is joshua prince-ramus' new firm in new york. it's basically the old new york branch of oma. they do make some pretty nice diagrams and all. my favorites are relating the new annenberg center to a wolf in a sheep suit.

cambridge student work.

cambridge architecture has some very nice work over at their old site. the work stops in starts in 1998 and ends in 2004. the work on the site spans from the first year to the diploma studios, and it's all around sexy. great models, great drawings, great collages.

los angeles.

one day we walked a couple blocks over from sci-arc to the american apparel factory. it was huge. six or seven stories and bright pink. we found two cars that looked exactly alike sitting in the parking lot. that dust that's all over the cars, that's smog. that guy next to the cars, that's bob.

we had been pulling an all nighter in the studio and by nine or so in the morning everyone was starting to pass out on the couches and futons that litter the halls at sci-arc. the weather didn't look too bad outside, so i got my backpack together, some short shorts, a t-shirt to use as a towel, and started walking to union station. i took the train out to long beach, through compton and a couple other neighborhoods that looked shady. low lying stuccoed ranch homes with palm trees towering over the telephone poles. couches flipped over in the middle of streets and tarp quilts covering entire backyards.
the beach was so close to the port. i was afraid to go swimming. there were lots of cranes, cranes as far as i could see down the beach. the beach had lots of garbage on it.
our review. we had a lot of pretty famous people, like jeffrey inaba, hernan diaz-alanso, michael rotondi, noah olmsted, tom wiscombe. peter cook walked through during the review. some other people with nice shoes and glasses were there. legs crossed and everything.

snack machine halo.
after the review we passed out on the couch outside. they have couches outside. it never rains. we were so tired. later that night we went to a bar downtown called the standard. it was really lame. they had a beer for like eight dollars. i said "no way" and drank a rock star energy drink i had snuck upstairs in my pants. i was just standing around, feeling weird around all these people sitting on low couches on this rooftop and some people were making out in little red pods by the pool, and drura comes up to me and says "hey man, i'm gonna hook it up man". he brought this girl over and said " marcia, this is caleb. caleb, marcia." as we shook hands she said "oh, yes, the bearded lady. you've been standing over by the pool." i have never had my flocculent manliness so offended by a single person. i am obviously not a bearded lady.

we stayed with this guy, patrick. he was a sheep farmer in new zealand when he was eleven.
outside of pat's apartment. all that stuff is used to make movies. pat had a spotlight in his apartment and several sets of binoculars, and at night we would have fun with security guards and hobos below.
